Did you hide in a corner or what? LOL
Why candid btw? Make a proper portrait of him with a surrounding that is supporting it.
Here there is distractions in on the left side and his one side is chopped off.
Btw, he looks very serious...

yeah, i have to hide and take a quick shot because he hates being the subject of a photograph. He is serious at that time, really, because our car just broke up and need fixing, and he have to get to a meeting after an hour. LOL

The colours work well, the grey background does not fight for attention with the main subject but still holds elements of interest that hint of a story.
I also like the way the foreground matches the background in colour and texture, together they surround the subject and 'hold' him in place in the imageas well as drawing the eye into the picture and giving it a sense of depth so that there is a feeling of distance between the viewer and the subject.
I think the blue of the tshirt works well here because really it's just a more vivid version of the grey of the background, it doesn't clash with it and just guides you gently into the portrait.
The only thing i find possibly distracting is the forearm - it leads the eye out of the picture and feels somehow truncated at the point that it disappears out of the frame... maybe consider a tighter crop here (?) cropping in from the right towards the shirt would remove the space below the arm and would perhaps remove that sense of the eye wandering down the arm and out of the picture.
And maybe then cropping a little from the top to re-balance the image proportions may provide a stronger focus on his face... hmmm there is a wire running just below the top of the image - it's not immediately obvious but i think subconsciously it might be distracting - you could consider removing that...
A fine portrait - the lighting models the features nicely without being overly dramatic (though I do like overly dramatic sometimes
